Second Shoot

Well the time finally came for our second shoot. After months of organising and worrying that we wouldn’t have targets in time, we had our second shoot. The targets arrived, we laid out the course – a full 28-target IFAA unmarked animal round.

After our 18 X 2 SBG shoot at the end of last year we had to add at least another 10 target positions, but not looking for the easy way out, we changed most of the targets. We ended up with only 1 shot that we reused from last time. That’s 27 new target positions and shooting lanes. We must be gluttons for punishment.

It was all worth it. It was a slow start for registration, the early frost in the morning delayed quite a few of the travellers, but they arrived. We had a good crowd, the weather was great, and I think (hope) everyone had a good time.

The first in for lunch was the group with Andy, I think they made it around the first half in about 1.75 hours!

In general the whole day progressed very well, I think it was a combination of fewer targets than SBG, but also less walking between pegs 1,2,3.

Congrats to those who broke Irish records, thanks to those who helped, either in the woods, or fundraising, (or both). Thanks to everyone who participated, it was great to see so many smiling faces, even from those who lost arrows, or who didn’t score as highly as they would have liked. That’s what Field Archery is all about: enjoying yourself, taking part in a great sport, in the fabulous Irish countryside.

We hope to see you at our next shoot, in June, we’ll try to make it as challenging. In the meantime, there are some photos from the shoot and we’ll see you around the country, the calendar is looking fairly full this year.
